The Harrow Neighbourhood House (formerly Bay Riders Community Centre) was first established in 2007.  The mission is: to connect, inspire and belong.  A steering committee was formed comprising Committee of Management, volunteer and community representatives and Centre staff.  The Harrow Neighbourhood House sub committee now oversees the governance of the program, meeting quarterly and reporting back to the HBNC Committee of Management.  The program relies on volunteer input, donations, grants and annual funding from DHHS.  The Harrow Neighbourhood House (HNH) programs are conducted from the Harrow Bush Nursing Centre.  The HNH plays an important role in providing activities to the township of Harrow and also for the needs of a district rural community of approximately 500 people.  The areas of focus are:

Health and Wellness

Exercise classes through the Harrow Neighbourhood House include:
– Child Friendly Exercise Class (terms, every Monday at 9.30am. Term rates only)
– Pilates Plus (terms, every Monday at 6.30am (Zoom) or 8.30am.  Term rates only)
– Fitness Plus (terms, every Wednesday at 8.30am.  Term rates only)
– Sue’s Yoga – (terms, every Friday 9am  $5 pp)

General Interest

– Cooking workshops
– Sketching and art classes
– RSA, First Aid, CPR and various seminars such as Understanding Centrelink Youth Allowance
– Public internet access
– Defensive Driving training (accredited training held annually usually in June/July)

School Holiday Program

Some activities have included:
– Surf Trip
– Caving
– Arts and crafts including art therapy workshop
– Cooking
– Archery
– Wildlife interactive displays
– African drumming
– Golf clinic
– Gaming with Headspace Horsham
We also support our local children to attend other school holiday programs in the region.  Our staff and volunteers have all received Working with Children checks and where necessary, have training in CPR, Anaphylaxis and First Aid.

Children and Young Adults

– Seminars
– Defensive Driving training including AustDrive 1 & 2.  This accredited driving instruction from the Australian Driving Institute is conducted in Harrow annually, usually June/July
– Facilitated Play Group by the West Wimmera Shire Council (currently on hold)
– Pop Up Play facilitated by Horsham Uniting (check for dates)

Harrow & District Men’s Shed

The Harrow & District Men’s Shed meets every Thursday from 10am to 3pm and is an important outlet of men in our district.  Men are welcome to work on projects or simply turn up for a social catch up and a cuppa!  A small fee ($3) is applicable to help cover costs.  The shed provides an opportunity for men in the community to hone their skills and socialise on a weekly basis.  The shed also has occasional excursions and trips, BBQ lunches and involvement in community events and projects.  The shed is also pleased to undertake project requests for a reasonable fee to cover costs.  If you have a project request, please request a project request form by emailing info@hbnc.org.au”>info@hbnc.org.au
